Why does the world insist on fasting?

I just read a post on LinkedIn about someone doing a 72 hour water fast as a challenge, and losing some 10kg weight. I read the comments too and I'm honestly disturbed.

For starters, I'm not against fasting. I fast frequently during Navratras or festivals. But the important thing is - I do it for myself. I like to build my self-control and I do feel they detox the body. That part is true. I enjoy the change. I love the challenge. And, I cook interesting fasting food which in itself is exciting for me. And it's honestly not very tough for me - I almost don't remember I'm fasting for most of the day.

What's disturbing about the whole 72 hour fast episode is that people put up such posts and other people feel that this is what they need to do to lose weight or "become healthy". No. Just no.

I've seen people torture themselves because someone said they should be doing intermittent fasting. Or juice fast. Or whatever is the newest fad. Not everyone's body is the same. Neither is everyone's relationship with food. Why put yourselves through hell just because someone else did?

There are honestly a lot of ways to be healthy and eat healthy. You really don't need to fast or starve yourself. I literally invent recipes for myself every week that are super healthy - but more importantly, if you ate food like that, you'd feel like you're in some kind of super Michelin experience and you'd still be hitting your goals.

People really need to stop following irresponsible trends and start learning for themselves.
